Animals In Need - Become a Festive Dog Walker: We will be in need of volunteers to come along and help us over the Festive Season. There are many dogs to be walked and cats to be stroked.
Even walking one or two dogs will be a great help.
Warm drinks and the odd mince pie will be on offer.

Volunteer Fosterers: VOLUNTEER FOSTERERS
(usually puppies and/or kittens - MUST LIVE IN THE BRANCH AREA)
The branch urgently needs dedicated animal carers who would be prepared to foster sick, injured or very young animals prior to adoption.
This will not involve any personal expense but could involve some sleepless nights.
Volunteer Home Visitors: HOME VISITORS - Home Visiting Volunteers are responsible to the Home Check Co-ordinators. They visit the prospective animal adopters in their own homes to ensure suitability.

Qualities needed are a calm confident manner, to be able to get along with people and to have some knowledge of caring for animals. We are always looking for volunteers to join our team.

Volunteers should live in the branch area
Volunteer Drivers: DRIVERS - VOLUNTEERS

(with own vehicle and based in the Tameside and Glossop area)

Could you spare an occasional hour to transport sick animals to a veterinary surgeon from the boarding kennels we use? Ideally, someone who is available during the day is needed. All mileage expenses will be reimbursed.
Volunteer Dog Walkers and Socialisers, Cat Socialisers: VOLUNTEER DOG WALKERS AND SOCIALISERS, CAT SOCIALISERS

Volunteers needed to help socialise dogs and cats in branch care. This needs a commitment to a few hours each week to visit branch dogs and cats in boarding accommodation. Through your efforts its hoped to give these previously mistreated or neglected animals the chance to meet different caring people and gain trust and confidence in humans again.

Phone-Operators: Animal Accident Rescue Unit, a charity providing transport for sick and injured animals and birds, urgently requires volunteer PHONE-OPS in the Nottingham area.
With their own telephone, phone-ops work from home, answering calls from members of the public. Help, advice and a training handbook are all provided. Phone-ops work for shifts of 3 hours at a time and are contacted once a week to find out which shifts they are available to cover. Working for even one shift each week or so would be a big help to us.
Drivers: Animal Accident Rescue Unit, a charity providing transport for sick and injured animals and birds, urgently requires volunteer DRIVERS in the Nottingham area.
With their own car, our drivers work from home. Help, advice and a training handbook are all provided. There are 3 different types of drivers working for the Charity. EMERGENCY DRIVERS work for shifts of 3 hours at a time and are contacted once a week to find out which shifts they are available to cover. Once again, covering even just one shift each week or so would be extremely helpful. NON-EMERGENCY DRIVERS are also required to take pets with owners to the vets - in the case that the owner has no other transport. Finally, WELFARE DRIVERS are called upon by our animal welfare teams to take animals from foster homes to vets for check-ups.
Cat, Dog Or Bird Fosterers: Animal Accident Rescue Unit, a charity providing transport for sick and injured animals and birds, urgently requires volunteer FOSTERERS in the Nottingham area.
Our rescued animals are temporarily placed with fosterers until they are found new owners. This provides a caring, safe environment for the animals we help. Reliable, experienced and patient cat, dog or bird lovers are always required as fosterers.
Fundraisers: Animal Accident Rescue Unit, a charity providing transport for sick and injured animals and birds, requires volunteer FUNDRAISERS in the Nottingham area.
Volunteers are needed to help raise money to pay for the veterinary treatment, etc, that our rescuees require. So if you could rattle a tin for a street or store collection, help at a fair, man a stall, or even organise your own event for the Charity, we'd be delighted to hear from you.

Fosterer

Overview:

It goes without saying that this is an essential role within any Branch and should be carried out by someone who is caring without being over-sentimental, with a sensible head on their shoulders and good standards of hygiene.

The Fosterer is responsible for physically looking after the cats and kittens that are brought into CP care by the Welfare Officer.

Responsibilities:

To provide an excellent standard of welfare for all cats and kittens in their care.

To comply with our Cat Care Standards, Principles and Guidelines and any other appropriate CP rules with regard to the welfare of cats and kittens.

To ensure that their own cats are protected by vaccination and segregation from foster cats.

To have a good working knowledge of cat care issues and, if in doubt about the state of a cat's health, to alert the Welfare Officer.

To provide new owners with sound basic advice about cat care and background details about the cat they are adopting.

To provide new owners with Homing Packs containing useful leaflets, background Information etc, if this has not already been done by another volunteer.

To ensure that all cats and kittens that are rehomed are free from parasites and, as far as it is possible to tell, completely healthy.

To present a professional image of Cats Protection to prospective owners.

To avoid becoming overloaded with too many cats.

To re-home all CP foster cats, rather than keep them indefinitely.

To transport cats to the vets if treatment is required, unless another volunteer carries out this task.

To keep accurate records of cats fostered and subsequently rehomed.

To liaise closely with the Welfare and Homing Officers.

To ensure that sufficient quality time is spent with foster cats to ensure that they are adequately stimulated and can be handled.

To complete necessary fostering and cat pen agreement forms where necessary.

To ensure that a Homing Form is completed whenever a foster cat is adopted.

To ensure that receipts are issued for all donations given.

Fostering Officer

Overview:

This is an essential role within any Branch and should be carried out by someone who is good with people and has good organisational skills.

The Fostering Officer is responsible for overseeing the fostering network and day-to-day smooth running of the branchâ€™s fosterers.

Responsibilities:

To ensure that fosterers do not become overloaded.

To ensure that fosterers do not "hang on" to favourite cats if a suitable home can be found.

To ensure that fosterers have adequate supplies of food, litter and basic equipment.

To ensure that fosterers have adequate supplies of cat care leaflets, receipts, homing forms, etc.

To assess potential new fosterers and to give them training in cat care and Branch procedures.

To carry out regular spot checks on fosterers to ensure that Cat Care Standards are being adhered to.

To ensure that Fostering Agreements and Pen Agreements are completed by every fosterer as appropriate.

To ensure that adequate transport is provided for the cats in Branch care, e.g. for veterinary visits.
Fund Raiser: *** ALL POSITIONS WITH STOURBRIDGE AND DISTRICT CATS PTOTECTION ARE VOLUNTARY ***Standard Volunteer Task Description

Fund-raiser

Overiew:

This is an essential role within any Branch and should be carried out by someone with plenty of stamina and a good sense of fun. A car is almost always essential.

The Fund-raiser is responsible for helping at stalls, flag days and other events to ensure that the Branch has a steady flow of income. The role is varied and there is plenty of scope for people to specialise, e.g. a volunteer may be more than willing to hold a collecting tin but may not like to help at a bazaar.

Examples of Responsibilities:

To attend fund-raising events and assist in whatever way is needed to ensure that the event goes smoothly.

To assist with the collection, sorting and storage of bric-a-brac if appropriate.

To assist with transporting goods to and from events.

To assist in setting up-stalls, pricing goods, selling items, making tea, selling raffle tickets, holding collection tins etc as appropriate.

To assist in packing up stalls after events.

To generate ideas for new fund-raising ventures.

To hold coffee mornings or other single-handed events if appropriate.

Helpline Worker

Overview:

This is a valuable support role within any Branch as it can filter many of the calls that the public make and direct them to the relevant person within the Branch.

It needs someone with excellent communication skills and who is good with people. You need to be a good listener but also firm â€“ there are many times when we cannot do what people ask of us and you need to be able to let them know that!

You will be provided with a manual that will help you to answer most queries that you are likely to receive.

Responsibilities:

To staff the Branch Helpline on a rota basis (usually at least one night a week for a couple of hours). Calls will be received in your own home although your own phone number will not be known to members of the public due to our diversion system.

To provide a polite and efficient service to callers to enable them to obtain the information or advice that they need.

To keep a log of all telephone enquiries received.

To follow guidelines issued by Head Office and the local Branch where appropriate.

To direct callers to other, more appropriate, organisations if necessary.

To pass on details to other Branch Officers (e.g., Lost and Found, Neutering, Homing) as appropriate.

Not to become involved in transporting sick or injured cats or kittens.

Not to give specific veterinary advice to members of the public.

Home-Visitor

Overview:

This is an essential role within any Branch and should be carried out by someone with good people skills, who is a good judge of character and who has their own transport.

The Home-visitor is responsible for visiting prospective homes to ensure that the right cat is placed in the right home.

Responsibilities:

To ensure that cats and kittens are homed in accordance with CP policy.

To interview prospective owners to ensure that they will be suitable to adopt a CP cat.

To assess the most suitable cat for the candidate.

To answer any queries the prospective owners may have regarding cat welfare or CP procedures.

To ensure that prospective owners are aware of the responsibilities, and costs, of owning a cat or kitten.

To be honest about the suitability of a prospective home.

To liaise closely with the Welfare and Homing Officers about the availability of cats and the suitability of the home.

Recruitment Officer/Volunteer Co-ordinator

Overview:

This is an essential role within any Branch and should be carried out by someone with good people skills and a persuasive manner. The Recruitment Officer/Volunteer Co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that new volunteers are recruited to the Branch and that existing volunteers are nurtured.

Responsibilities:

To organise volunteer recruitment campaigns.

To contact all Headquarters members in the Branch area at least once a year to invite them to become active volunteers.

To be aware of CP Principles and Guidelines and the responsibilities of all Branch committee Members and volunteers.

To prepare Branch-specific job descriptions reflecting each role within the Branch.

To keep current records of existing volunteers and details of their skills/interests.

To ensure work is distributed fairly and that no one is overburdened.

To establish good relations with volunteer agencies in the area.

To make continuous efforts to recruit new volunteers.

To select new volunteers in conjunction with the Co-ordinator to ensure that suitable applicants are assigned suitable roles.

To ensure that new volunteers are welcomed and trained in their new role, acting as the first point of contact - a friendly face.

To motivate all volunteers and to remind them why we do it.

To follow up all offers of help immediately and endeavour to get every potential volunteer involved straightaway.

Veterinary Liaison Officer

Overview
This role needs someone who is organised and enjoys liaising with others. It would be useful if they have their own transport.

Responsibilities

To contact the veterinary surgeries that the branch uses on a fortnightly basis to find out if they need more supplies.
To order supplies and ensure that they reach the vets.
To oversee the volunteers who perform â€œvet runsâ€? â€“ (take cats/kittens to the vets on behalf of fosterers or other volunteers).
To perform the secretarial work that is sent out from our branch to Veterinary surgeries.
To replace the cat collecting tins at Veterinary surgeries when necessary.

Fund-Raising Officer: All Branches are self-sufficient, relying solely on fund-raising to help the cats in their care. We are looking for someone who is bursting with innovative ideas and a great events organiser.

We need people to foster cats or kittens on a short-term basis. This could mean erecting a cat pen in your garden or giving up your spare room for a mum and her kittens.

Volunteer Fundraisers.: We are looking for people to help with our fundraising activities, ie. Helping to man stalls at table-tops, car-boot sales, help at our various fairs, or take one of our collecting tins and place it in your office or shop.
Foster Homes.: We are looking for people to foster rescue cats. If you have a spare room i.e bedroom, and spare time, then please get in touch with us. All equipment and vets bills are paid by Aristocat rescue.
